Never Had I Ever Thought

Never had I ever thought
that a day like this would come
when humankind will be shunned
from going outside and dreaming of one

Never had I ever thought
An invisible storm will hit us all so hard
that our lives will come back to square one
and materialism will become a thing of discard

Never had I ever thought
that in a world where people stopped for none
will come to a standstill, silence, and vulnerability
A progressive nation like our would crash into a downturn

Never had I ever thought
that our silly generation will sit back and reflect
on deep scars and damage, it did to mother earth
Vow for real to address them and fix the defect

Never had I ever thought
that locking down the human race
will actually free up the mother earth
which for a long time was confined to
ungrateful bearers, negligence, and dearth

    that I will take years
to stop by, read your poem
    and leave a comment.

    It was always instant,
    almost on the same day

  4. Dear Simran,

    Beautifully penned and expressed !!
It was absolutely mind blowing to see the air quality index improve in mere 7-10 days.
    Clear skies in a week,
    Cleaner surroundings, no traffic jams!
After all god knew mother nature needed a detox as well :)

  5. Hi Simran, you have beautifully captured the essence of Lockdown. Even on 20th March I never thought that - what is happening now would happen. I liked this poem. There is no exaggeration but apt description of the present.
